Despite occupying 47 percent of the US workforce in 2023, women only represented about 13 percent of all trucking industry roles and 31 percent of all non-truck driving roles.
In response, Women In Motion launched a survey to gather insights from industry professionals in both trucking (motor carrier) and trucking-adjacent roles across all backgrounds, sectors, and education levels on the recruitment and retention of women in non-driving roles. Conducted by the American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI) on behalf of WIM, the findings detail the following:
- Survey Demographics
- Recruitment Findings
- Retention Findings
- Impact of Parental Leave Policies
- Perception of Career Advancement Opportunities and Barriers, and
- Women's Likelihood to Leave their Current Organizations
This report highlights key training, recruitment, retention, and career advancement findings for each of the factors identified by women respondents as impactful (e.g., compensation, work-life balance, etc.).
